Even Elite Players Need an MOT – Just Ask the Pros!

This morning, we had the pleasure of hosting two elite students, Joe and Ethan, from the Tournament Golf College at St. Mellion. They popped into the studio to see Alex for a final equipment tune-up before flying out to Portugal for their winter training and tournament schedule.

It was a fascinating session and a perfect reminder that no matter your handicap, your equipment must match your swing.

Despite being plus-handicap golfers, the data revealed that their current equipment was actually holding them back. One of the most eye-opening moments came during the fairway wood fitting. We saw a club-head speed of 115mph, yet the player was using a stock "Regular" flex shaft. For context, that kind of speed merits a heavier, stiffer profile to maintain control and consistency.

By moving them into properly weighted and stiffer shafts, the difference was immediate. Not only did the numbers improve, but the students left with a real education on how shaft flex and weight profiles affect delivery and launch conditions.

The takeaway for our members?

If elite players preparing for professional tournaments can be using the wrong specs, there is a good chance you might be too! You don't need a 115mph swing speed to benefit from a fitting; you just need clubs that work with you, not against you.

Good luck to Joe and Ethan in Portugal, and if you want to check your own specs before the season starts, come and see us in the shop.
