Golf is tough...

Hunter Mahan is a name familiar to most golfers. A regular PGA Tour Pro for the past 14 years, with two World Golf Championships among his six PGA Tour victories, seven appearances in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, and just short of $30 million in career earnings.

This week the former World Number four makes his debut on the Web.com Tour in an attempt to reboot his career and regain his PGA Tour card. A series of four tournaments in the Web.com Tour Finals that offer PGA Tour cards to 25 players who make the most money from these events. Hunter was last seen in the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014. The pressures of juggling life on the tour, a dip in performance with a growing family at home, Hunter has three children at home ages four, two and one. He failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time in 2016.

On a positive note Hunter Mahan sees this more as an opportunity than a demotion. I believe we will see Hunter back to his best, he is too good a player. As they say 'Talent is Permanent, Form Temporary '

Juniors perform well!

On Wednesday, 30th August we had the Junior Open at Tehidy Park GC. The Tehidy juniors performed very well on the day with some fantastic scores, which featured them in the prizes.

County call-up for Tehidy trio

Congratulations to Tehidy Juniors Josh Chapman, Matthew Lamb and Lee Chambers who have been selected to play for the Cornwall U14’s team to play Wiltshire at Launceston on Sunday, 10th September.

Saturday Junior group coaching

We will be having Junior coaching for the U16’s on Saturday mornings at 10.30am. Please note that new students must register in the Professional Shop prior to the coaching session. The cost is £4 per session which includes equipment.

It’s official: golf is good for you

There's been a lot of focus on Public Health England’s One You campaign in the media over the past week, which challenges each person to complete just 10 minutes of continuous brisk walking per day to help boost their health and reduce the risk of early death by 15%.

At the same time, a unique study assessing the benefits of golf on health was announced that, when combined with the above campaign, makes interesting reading. The project – the most comprehensive study on golf and health to date – found improvements in life expectancy, a decreased risk of more than 40 major chronic diseases, as well as positive impacts on cholesterol, body composition and mental health.

So, what's the take home message from all of this? Keep playing golf!
